A man is working in his huge land, trying to make a living to feed his family. What could spoil that scene? The greed spoiled that scene. This man never had enough. Being greedy can have very bad results; it can even cause a person’s death. How can being greedy cause the greedy person’s death? How much land does a man need? Can he say no or is he always looking for more? A man can’t have enough land. He will think that the happiness depends on how big his land is, but at last he will need a small land to bury his body when he dies. “Six feet from his head to his heels was all he needed.”
When a person becomes greedy, and never has enough, a lot of bad consequences will result. Everybody will hate him because nobody likes greedy people. He’ll never be happy. Socrates said”we tend to forget that happiness doesn’t come as a result of getting something we don’t have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have.” Nobody can trust a greedy person because he will always try to get more because he will never have enough.
Pahom wasn’t a land owner, but then he became a land owner. He never had enough, and he was trying to own more and more land; he never stopped until he caused his own death. It all started when a lady was trying to sell her land, so Pahom bought about 40 acres. After some troubles happened between Pahom and his neighbors Pahom sold his land and bought 125 acres in a new ********, but he wasn’t independent. ”If it were my own land,” thought Pahom, “I should be independent, and there would not be all this unpleasantness.”
Pahom began looking for looking for land which he could buy; and he came across a peasant who’s willing to sell his land cheap. A passing dealer happened to stop at Pahom’s one day to get a feed for his horse. The dealer told Pahom about the Bashkir land, where he had bought a thirteen thousand acres for 1000 rubles. “There now,” thought Pahom, “with my one thousand, why should I get only thirteen hundred acres, and saddle myself with a debt besides? If I take it out there, I can get more than ten times as much for the money.”
Pahom went to the Bashkir land. He took a lot of gifts for them, and he made a great deal with the Bashkir chief to buy his land by the space he covered walking per day. In the next day, Pahom started covering his land, but his greed led him to try to cover more land than he could. Lately, Pahom realized that couldn’t make it. While the sun was disappearing, Pahom was trying to reach his aim, but he fell forward and reached the end spot with his hands, but blood was flowing from his mouth. Pahom was dead.
The thieves become rich when they rob a bank or rob a jewelry store, but they don’t stop stealing because their greed tells them that this is not enough for them because they think that happiness is getting more things, but it is not. A Palestinian wise woman said once “There are many things we would throw away if we were not afraid that others might pick them up.”A greedy attitude is always a negative advisor in a person’s life; it can lead to his own death. Pahom was a land owner, but he never got enough, he was always trying to own more and more land until he caused his own death. I think because of his greed he lost everything, even his life. It’s wrong for any person to make greed his advisor in life because it will make him lose everything. Pahom got a chance to own more land than he needs, but because of his greed he kept trying to cover more and more land than he can cover, so he lost everything, and he lost his life. The greed killed Pahom. If Pahom wasn’t greedy, he would own more land than he imagined, but his greed lead him to his own death.
